Gliding is an exhilarating sport, one of the cheapest, friendliest and most enjoyable ways of learning to fly. The thrill and beauty of silent flight is an unforgettable experience. If you've ever wanted to fly, this is your opportunity.
We are keen to attract visitors and new members, and we now have a "Fixed Price to Solo Scheme" that takes some of the uncertainty out of the cost of learning to fly. Welcome to the home of the Lakes Gliding Club Kent Gliding Club was founded on 4th January 1930 and documents show it to be the first BGA club to be formed. Founder member Jimmy Lowe-Wilde not only gained Britain's first gliding certificate, he also built the first glider to be registered by the BGA - a Primary affectionately called Columbus. The club flourished during the 1930's with gliding at a number of sites, but mostly at Lenham and Eastchurch. Due to the 1939-45 war this activity was unable to continue.
The Cotswold Gliding Club at Aston Down airfield in Gloucestershire has around 200 members. You are welcome to join us, whether as a new member, a visitor from another gliding club, or a student on a holiday or mini course.

Gliding is suitable for all ages from 14 upward. You can fly solo from the age of 16, and the challenges and rewards keep on coming, whatever level you reach. We encourage young people into this rewarding sport with sponsorship schemes, whilst older members enjoy flying with us into retirement.
Gliding in Yorkshire is something special. Whether you're a trainee pilot, a gliding pundit, or a member of the public wanting to try something new, the YGC is a great place to be.
We're open 364 days a year, and offer full-time professional instructors, and a fleet of modern gliders.
